Service Description
Welcome to Pendle Pottery Studio, I am an experienced ceramics teacher with an honour's degree in Fine Art and a Masters degree in Ceramics. I have a purpose built, fully equipped studio & workshop space, with a wide variety of specialist tools and equipment, including a slab roller, clay extruder and a good range of hand building tools. As a beginner you will have access to this equipment to enable you to make a variety of ceramics both functional and decorative. This intensive beginners' course is the perfect way to introduce you to a variety of hand building construction techniques using stoneware clay. This course has a set program designed to develop your skills and knowledge. You will learn how to prepare clay, use construction techniques such as slab building, coiling and pinching, and learn how to use formers and moulds to create shapes. You will learn surface decoration techniques such as carving, embossing and relief. You will also learn how to create textures & distressed surfaces, and use slips and underglazes to add surface decoration and interest. You will also learn how to finish your work with oxides and glazes. You are encouraged to use your own creative ideas to make each piece you create during the course unique, however we are unable to accommodate specific requests for a particular item as every person on the course is following a carefully planned program of making. We keep the classes small to ensure everyone gets adequate time and support, so I only book up to 10 people at a time on to a course, as such places are limited. This course runs on two separate Saturdays from 9.30 am until 5.00 pm. followed by a 2.5 hour evening glazing session. the date for this session is arranged during the course. We provide tea, coffee and snacks but you will need to bring a packed lunch along with you. These courses are a fun and sociable way to share the joy and pleasure of working with clay, it’s an opportunity to learn new skills, in a relaxed, friendly and welcoming environment. The price includes all tuition and use of studio equipment, BUT PLEASE NOTE there is an additional small charge to cover the cost of materials and firing and this is calculated by weight/volume per finished piece and payable at the end of the course. Terms and conditions of booking apply to all courses please refer to my website.
