Service Description

Whether you are a complete beginner or have some experience using a potters wheel, this 6 week long course is just for you. Suitable for people aged 16+ you will attend a weekly 2.5 hour session at our dedicated ceramic studio in Higherford Mill, Barrowford in the heart of Pendle. Under the guidance of our expert tutors with many years of experience working with clay, you will be taught the core techniques for creating pottery using a potters wheel. You will learn how to centre and form the clay to make simple vessels such cups and bowls and how to attach handles and refine your pieces ready for firing. Each student has their own wheel to use for each session and there is a plentiful supply of stoneware clay available. If you are a more experienced thrower and looking to develop or refresh your basic skills, you will be supported to build on your existing abilities and guided in techniques that enable you to develop and grow as a thrower e.g. creating height, increasing scale or constructing more complex forms. Please discuss any specific goals with your tutor, and where possible and appropriate we will do our best to support you in reaching these. Our class sizes are small with a maximum of 6 people and at the end of the course you will have up to 6 pots that will be fired and glazed in your chosen colour by the studio. Working with clay is proven to be very beneficial for your mental wellbeing, and using the potters wheel can be a very mindful and grounding experience. This course is the perfect opportunity for you to invest some time in yourself, whilst giving you the opportunity to develop your creative skills. Pendle Pottery Studio is a friendly and welcoming space, many of our students create new friendships, through connecting with others and sharing the joys of working with clay. Start your clay journey with us and discover the amazing potential of mud! Spaces get booked up quickly so book your place using the links to guarantee your spot on the course.
