Service Description
Welcome to Pendle Pottery Studio, I am an experienced ceramics teacher with an honour's degree in Fine Art and a Masters degree in Ceramics. I have a purpose built, fully equipped studio & workshop space, with a wide variety of specialist tools and equipment, including a slab roller, clay extruder and a good range of hand building tools. As a beginner you will have access to this equipment to enable you to make a variety of ceramics both functional and decorative. This 8-week beginners' course is the perfect way to introduce you to a variety of hand building and construction techniques using stoneware clay. This course has a set weekly program designed to build your skills and knowledge. You will learn how to prepare clay, use construction techniques such as slab building, coiling and pinching, and how to use formers and moulds to create shapes. You will learn surface decoration techniques such as carving, how to create textures, distress surfaces, mono-printing and slip decoration. You will also learn how to finish your work with oxides, colours and glazes. You will be shown how to use the tools and equipment available at our studio and learn about important health and safety factors essential for all potters to know. We keep the classes small to ensure everyone gets adequate time and support, so I only book up to 10 people at a time on to a session, as such places are limited. These sessions are a fun and sociable way to share the joy and pleasure of working with clay, it’s an opportunity to learn new skills, in a relaxed, friendly and fun environment. The price includes, 2.5 hours of tuition and use of all equipment, PLEASE NOTE an additional charge is made to cover the cost of clay, glazes and firing and is calculated by weight/volume per piece. At the end of this course you have the option to re-enrol for a further 6 weeks on our intermediate course where we will cover some more complex techniques including using the potter's wheel and creating more complex structures and larger scale pieces. Weather/season permitting we endeavour to include a Raku firing session as well. The studio offers a membership program open to people who have completed both the beginners and intermediate course. Membership consists of a monthly subscription giving you up to 30 hours of independent access a month. Terms and conditions of booking apply to all courses please refer to my website.
