Service Description
Welcome to Pendle Pottery Studio, the studio is run and managed by me, Stella Townshend. I have a First Class honours BA in Fine Art and a Masters in Ceramics. I have been teaching ceramics and running the studio for almost 10 years and am passionate about all things clay. Anyone who accesses the studio whether as a student or a member has access to some amazing resources and equipment that you won’t find in any other ceramics facility in this area, we have everything you could ever need to create some wonderful pottery pieces. This course is designed for both flexibility, because life is already busy and demanding and coming to pottery and also to build skills and confidence so that should you wish to continue your pottery journey, you can join the studio as a member. Membership is a wonderful creative outlet giving you access to the facilities seven days a week, meaning you can play with mud pretty much whenever you feel like it. We start off covering all the basics of constructing pots by hand, using slab building, coiling and pinch pot techniques. We will also look at how to create surface texture, learn how to apply colour at different stages and we will also touch on some of the technical aspects of ceramics (the things that will help you make better pots and avoid mistakes). We will not be covering working on the potters wheel, because this requires a specific set of skills and takes time to master, we offer the opportunity to do this on a separate course at the studio. What I can promise is a supportive, fun and enjoyable experience, the opportunity to develop your creativity, a space where you spend time doing something thats just for you, an opportunity to make new friends and share experiences with like minded folk and the chance to learn new skills.I love sharing the joys of making with clay and watching the journey of growth and development people go on when they join the studio, I cannot be held responsible for you become a pottery addict! Warning, it is a highly addictive hobby! I am running the sessions weekly on a Monday morning from 10.00 - 12.30, a Monday evening 6.00 -8.30 pm or Wednesday evening 6-8.30pm. You get a total of six sessions per booking, you choose a preferred day for your regular attendance but have the option to jump onto an alternate session if needed, useful if you have childcare commitments, work or holidays planned. The price of the course is £199 for six sessions and that includes all the materials and firing.
