INTRODUCTION

When a booking is made with Pendle Pottery Studio, the studio purchases the required materials to facilitate this booking and blocks out the allocated time agreed with you in our schedule, thus preventing any further bookings of new business to take place for that period. The studio then plans and prepares all the tools, equipment and any templates needed to enable the booking to run smoothly and ensure every person taking part has everything they need to get the most from the session/s. This incurs immediate expenses for us, as we are all only a small business, we are not in a position to absorb the losses that inevitably occur through cancellations or alterations to group numbers. So, we hope that you will understand that in order to ensure that all parties are treated fairly that by booking on any course or workshop you agree with and consent to the Terms and Conditions detailed below.

We reserve the right to make amendments to the content of this document without notice, we will inform you of any changes to the below Terms and Conditions as soon as is reasonably possible. It is your responsibility to inform us in advance of any allergies or special requirements. We reserve the right to cancel or change the date of a course where necessary or it is impractical for the course to run. All courses advertised by Pendle Pottery Studio require a minimum attendance of 4 persons to be viable.

CANCELLING INDIVIDUAL SESSIONS WITHIN A BLOCK BOOKING

A block booking is designed to run consecutively, if you are unable to attend an individual session for any reason then unfortunately the studio is unable to offer you an alternative session and you will not be entitled to a refund or any credit or catch-up time for any missed weeks within your booking period.

We do understand that on occasion life can be difficult, so in certain circumstances you may be offered 1 untutored ‘catch up’ session to enable you to complete a project.

If you cancel within 10 working days of a booked session the session will still be charged at the full fee.

Cancellations with prior notice of three weeks or less (but more than 10 working days) from the session date will mean that the session will be transferred up to the same value (subject to availability). In circumstances where a

transfer of the booking is declined or not possible, then your 50% deposit is non-refundable. If you have paid the full amount, then the remaining balance once your non-refundable deposit has been deducted, will be refunded to you.

Cancellation by you with prior notice of more than three weeks from the session date will mean that you will either be offered an alternative date for your session or receive a full refund.

CANCELLATION BY US

On the rare occasions that we have to cancel we reserve the right to make changes to any courses, workshops or one-off sessions.

If we cancel your course or session for any reason we will do our best to organise an alternative date within a reasonable period of time. If this is not possible, or you are unable to attend an alternative date, we will refund the full purchase price including any deposit.

SECTION 3: HEALTH AND SAFETY

Pendle Pottery studio will endeavor to take the appropriate steps to minimise hazards to participants/students using the studio, but all students/participants must be aware of the inherent hazards of a working pottery studio environment and use the studio at their own risk.

These risks can include but are not exclusive to the use of sharp tools, heavy objects and where relevant and appropriate automated and mechanical equipment such as extruders, pugmills and pottery wheels amongst others.

Students may also experience exposure to chemicals and pottery dust, as well as working in an environment where equipment is operating at high temperatures.

All students will be given instructions on the correct and safe operation of all tools and equipment available for them to use at the studio. Please note that we cannot be held responsible, nor are liable, for any injury to or caused by students/participants as a consequence of failing to follow or adhere to the health and safety guidance described both within these terms and those given written or verbally during any booked sessions.

All students must wear appropriate clothing and comfortable, flat shoes with non-slip soles and covered toes. Casual clothing is recommended. Long hair must be tied back for wheel work and jewelry and watches are best left at home.

All persons attending the studio are expected to follow good general health and safety practices to minimise risk to themselves and other studio users.

The pottery studio is small and does not have storage for personal belongings. The studio cannot be held responsible for any damage or loss that occurs to a student’s/participant’s personal property during any course or workshop.

POTTERY PIECES MADE DURING YOUR BOOKING

The clay item or items you make during your workshop will be kiln fired at very high temperatures, the first firing transforms the clay into ceramic ready to receive a glaze coating, then if the work is being glazed as part of your booking, the second firing melts the glaze onto the ceramic piece.

Some courses include the cost of raw materials, others do not, please refer to the specific information about your course or booking. Any additional fees must be paid prior to work being fired, work is charged by volume or by dried weight depending on size (please refer to the studio for the current cost per cubic cm/KG) payments can be made either in cash or bank transfer.

All the classes offered by the studio are intended for students and participants who are pursuing pottery as a hobby and not for commercial purposes. Many students make work for friends and family, but anyone joining the classes intending to produce work with the intention of selling either online or in person will need to discuss this with the studio before enrolling onto any course. We are a small studio and don’t currently have the resources and technical support to accommodate anyone wishing to make work solely for commercial purposes. We are hoping to develop our offer in the future with a view to supporting makers who wish to pursue this.

Pottery is not without risk and inevitably from time-to-time pieces made during workshops may experience some damage. Pendle Pottery work hard to mitigate the risk through teaching good practices during preparation and construction, but given the inherent risk involved in making ceramic objects, we cannot be held responsible for any cracks, faults or breakages that occur in your finished work. That said, we want you to come away from your workshop with a piece of work you are proud of, so we will always do our best to try and resolve any problems that result in damage to your work.

Clay is a natural material and takes time to dry fully, proper drying is a crucial part of the process and massively reduces the risks of breakage and damage during firing. As such drying times vary throughout the year dependent on room temperature as well as the size and thickness of your piece. If your workshop includes a glaze firing your work will go through a second firing once your chosen glaze colour has been applied. This can mean that work can take up to 8 weeks before it is ready for collection.

Once work is ready for collection you will be notified via email. All work made on courses that do not include material costs must be paid for prior to final firing taking place, please refer to the studio for current costs, finished pieces cannot be removed from the studio until they have been paid for.

Re-firing of work due to unsuccessful glaze finish/colour is not permitted, any re-firing of work must be discussed with the studio, it is the responsibility of the student to test out glaze finishes when working on independent projects.

All finished work is stored at the pottery for a maximum of 10 weeks after final firing or after you have been notified about collection, due to storage limitations, any unclaimed work remaining after this time will be disposed of.

Anyone requiring finished work to be shipped will need to discuss this with Pendle Pottery Studio prior to attending the course as this will be subject to an additional fee.

By booking with Pendle Pottery Studio you acknowledge that you have read and understood these termsand conditions and agree to be bound by these conditions at the time of booking and throughout the booking period with Pendle Pottery Studio.
